Banned Book Readout

On September 30, Luther Book Shop commemorated Banned Books Week with a “Read Out!” Members of Luther faculty, staff and student body read selections from a banned or challenged book.

Challenges of books occur in schools, bookstores and libraries in every state for reasons like profanity, violence, sexual orientation, or offensive portrayals of racial or religious groups.  460 challenges were reported in 2009.

Started in 1982, Banned Books Week is a national celebration of our freedom to read.
