The Lutheran Festival of Writing is a public event hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, triennially in the fall. It brings together poets and writers of fiction and non-fiction who have been shaped by the Lutheran tradition. Through readings, lectures, and panel discussions, the festival aims to highlight this writing for students, faculty, and a wider public, as well as to support and encourage the vocation of serious writing and to cultivate a community of writers in the Lutheran world.
The Festival is for readers and writers—those who love to hear the word (in its largest sense) and to shape it into meaning, power, and beauty, for those who want to enrich and illuminate their lives with stories , poems, essays, and memoirs. The Festival welcomes established and aspiring writers who are, or have been, associated with the Lutheran denomination. The Festival also welcomes readers who are looking for a closer connection with writers, to learn more about their writing lives and vocations. We'll have formal and informal ways for readers to connect with writers. We also plan an open mike for students and panel discussions including Q & A from participants.
We value the Friends of the Festival. Please consider becoming a Friend by making a donation. To give to the Festival, click on this site, select "Other Designation," and type in "Lutheran Festival of Writing" to be sure your donation goes to the right place.
The Lutheran Festival of Writing is sponsored by Luther College and hosted by the Luther College Department of English.
