Research Program:

Since 2004 my research program has focused exclusively on topics in the area of evolutionary psychology. We have focused on a number of topics including the parameters of facial attractiveness, differential kin investment as a function of paternity certainty, and the role of attachment in sexuality. Each academic year I invite two to four students to join my program for a period of at least one year.  Students who join my lab typically have completed coursework in statistics, research methods, and evolutionary psychology or evolutionary biology.  Below is a sample of our work from the last three years.

Personal Information:  I enjoy spending time with my two children, Forrest and Meredith (they represent my best work to date!). When I am not involved in family affairs or academic pursuits I continue to volunteer with the local Boy Scout troop as an assistant scoutmaster and merit badge instructor. For relaxation, I enjoy sailing on Lake Pepin, jazz, biking, backpacking, collecting vintage audio equipment, and modern architecture (especially Mies van der Rohe and Pierre Koenig). I grew up in the driftless area of northwestern Illinois (Elizabeth, Ill.).
