Luther placed 23rd from the field of 32 teams this morning at the NCAA III National Championships. UW-Oshkosh hosted the national finale at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
Washington University (Mo) won its first national championship after placing second a year ago. Middlebury College (Vt), entered the national finale as the top ranked team in the country, and was trying to repeat as national champions.Williams College (Mass), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (Calif.) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology completed the top-five teams.
Emma Spoon capped off her career by earning all-America honors for the first time. Spoon placed 18th from the field of 277 runners, but scored 10 points for the team total. She covered the 6K course in a time of 21:26.84. Spoon becomes Luther's first all-America since 2008.
Christina Storlie (88th/59pts - 22:14), Melissa Erickson (170th/124pts), Sam McAllister (206th/155pts), Annie Klepper (220th/167pts) completed Luther's top-five finishers.
Maggie Pierson (223rd - 23:19.13) and Anna Murray (262nd - 24:11) rounded out the Norse seven.
